Lead Teacher aka Head Coach - FT position

TCP Academy is seeking a passionate educator who recognizes the unique opportunity to be part of a founding team. The Head Coach will act as the Lead Teacher and (a) be responsible for overseeing the student cohort (12-21 students) and guiding students through their online learning; (b) guide students into developing a sense of self-agency and discovering knowledge and information on their own; (c) ensure academic, behavioral and personal goals are met for each student; (d)co-develop personalized learning plans and learning opportunities for each student and monitor progress; and (e) be flexible and open to adopting new learning strategies and techniques while incorporating best-practices developed through professional development.

Key Responsibilities in the Classroom

  • Guide and assist students through their online core curriculum content

  • Deliver SEL activities, content and curriculum with precision and accuracy

  • Prepare lessons and activities to supplement online learning content

  • Direct whole group, small group, and individual lessons & activities with joy, rigor and passion

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with students and families that align with the mission and vision of TCP Academy

  • Provide consistent praise and reprimands consistent with school policies and procedures 

  • Engage in ongoing data collection and analysis and create student action plans 

  • Create and maintain an encouraging, peer-pressure free learning environment

  • Determine, based on performance, when students need to be sped up or slowed down in any particular core subject

Key Responsibilities as a Founding Teammate

  • Do whatever it takes to achieve the mission of TCP Academy 

  • Co-develop, update and adjust personalized learning plans for each student

  • Write lesson plans in one or two subjects for non-online content days (over the summer)

  • Co-create service-learning projects and activities 

  • Participate in an annual one-two week staff training over the summer

  • Demonstrate leadership through creative problem solving and by taking the initiative 

  • Commit to teach an extended daily schedule (student day is from 8:30am - 3pm) 

  • Commit to weekly professional development (at minimum 1 hour per week)

  • Help create a sense of community within the school

  • Proactively engage with students and families

Qualifications of a Head Coach

  • Enthusiasm for middle school age students and a non-traditional classroom setting

  • Passionate about non-traditional teaching methods

  • Valid Maryland Teaching License (preferred but not required) 

  • Master's degree a bonus

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)

  • Pass a background check (required) 

  • Minimum of three (3) years of middle or high school teaching experience (preferred) OR minimum of five (5) years experience as a teacher, educator or administrator at the middle or high school level

  • Special education teaching background a bonus

  • Experience or knowledge of Business Fundamentals or Entrepreneurship (bonus)

  • Experience with planning and executing community events (preferred)

  • Certification in CPR and first aid (TCP Academy will provide training if needed)

  • Compassionate attitude and strong understanding of adolescent development

Co-Teacher aka Assistant Coach - FT/PT/Volunteer position(s)

Position Summary

TCP Academy is seeking a passionate educator who recognizes the unique opportunity to be part of a founding team. The Assistant Coach will act as a co-teacher and assistant to the Head Coach. In an assisting role, the Assistant Coach is responsible for (a) helping to achieve the goals of TCP Academy and the Head Coach, (b) keeping students on track and focused on achieving their daily goals, (c) creating and maintaining a positive and encouraging school environment, and (d) continually assessing students performance and making recommendations to the Head Coach.  As a Co-teacher, the Assistant Coach will be responsible for (a) building and maintaining strong relationships with students, families and community stakeholders, (b) ensure academic, behavioral and personal goals are met for each student, (c) make recommendations regarding personalized learning plans for each student and monitor progress, 

(d) guide students into developing a sense of self-agency and discovering and acquiring knowledge and skills on their own and (e) spearhead other efforts in the classroom and in the community in direct collaboration with the Head Coach.

Key Responsibilities in the Classroom

  • Guide and assist students through their online core curriculum content

  • Assist Head Coach at delivering SEL activities, content and curriculum

  • Always prepared to step up and be the Lead Teacher when Head Coach is absent

  • Assist in preparing lesson plans and activities 

  • Direct and/or co-direct whole group, small group, and individual lessons & activities with joy, rigor and passion

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with students and families that align with the mission and vision of TCP Academy

  • Act as Lead Teacher and/or co-teacher during TCP curriculum delivery

  • Provide consistent praise and reprimands consistent with school policies and procedures 

  • Engage in ongoing data collection and analysis and assist in creating student action plans

  • Create and maintain an encouraging, peer-pressure free learning environment
